GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tina Kotek is urging OHSU to shut down its controversial primate research center in Hillsboro, citing concerns over the facility’s operations.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • The Hillsboro City Council meeting will be held April 1 at the Civic Center Auditorium and via Zoom — the session will include only proclamations, public comments and a work session on the Climate Action Plan. Residents can speak for three minutes during the meeting — a chance to share their views with the council.  Hillsboro Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America reports that Portland is ranked 52nd worst for pollen among major cities—just one spot behind Los Angeles.  KATU
  • UnitedHealthcare and OHSU reached a multi-year deal—ending stalled talks that risked delayed care for 74,000 patients—to guarantee that patients will keep using trusted services at OHSU and local hospitals. Patients with employer, individual, and Medicare Advantage plans will continue getting care at Hillsboro Medical Center, OHSU Hospital, and other facilities.  KOIN
  • On Friday, the Oregon Health Authority announced that about $117M in federal funding for programs like substance use treatment, virus testing and immunizations was cut—funds that support every county and all federally recognized tribal communities. Local and state officials are now assessing the impact and reviewing whether the cuts were legal.  KOIN
