  • A new local non-profit called the Willamette Valley Wine Foundation was established to support wine industry workers and their families in our region. The group will offer programs that improve community resources—helping sustain an important part of Oregon’s wine industry.  KOIN

CRIME NEWS

  • A grand jury indicted 28-year-old Dwight Deshawn Dew Jr. for the fatal May 2023 shooting of 24-year-old Pedro Antonio Prieto-Lopez in a Washington County parking lot—Dew Jr. was already in custody for a separate prostitution charge—and he faces charges including first-degree manslaughter, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a machine gun—detectives continue investigating the case.  KATU
  • On Monday, Hillsboro police charged three juveniles with attempted murder after they shot a man at the ARCO gas station on NE Cornell Rd, leaving him badly injured and prompting a two-hour search after the suspects fled on foot—local officers later detained them at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center.  KOIN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Oregon State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner announced on Tuesday that nearly $11 million in unclaimed funds will be mailed to over 20,000 people this month through the Checks without Claims initiative; residents can check the Unclaimed Property Program website or wait for a confirmation letter to see if they are owed money.  KOIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ruled Monday that BLM illegally approved logging in late successional reserves protecting old-growth forest lands in Oregon — a decision that conservation groups celebrated. The groups hope BLM forest managers later focus on fire resiliency projects instead of further timber sales.  KATU
