Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 10th of April.
Good morning, Hillsboro.
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Tuesday that the state will receive more than $4 million from a $335 million settlement with Mylan—now known as Viatris—for allegedly deceptively marketing opioids to doctors.
The funds will support local treatment and prevention programs.
The Oregon House passed HB 2007 to boost summer literacy programs by giving grants to schools, public charter schools, education service districts, and tribes for evidence-based reading support.
The bill takes effect immediately and lets school districts plan summer programs — the Senate will review it next.
AARP Oregon is urging the Social Security Administration to reverse planned customer service changes that will begin April 14—these changes will cause longer wait times and force older residents, especially in rural areas, to travel far for in-person assistance.
The group has already gathered over 2 million emails and calls to Congress and will continue to push for a full reversal so Americans can access their Social Security without delay.
