  • On Saturday morning, April 12, Hillsboro police responded to a shooting at the Fred Meyer parking lot, began life-saving measures on the victim, and later arrested 23-year-old Heriberto Tapia-Naranjo on charges of attempted murder, assault, and unlawful use of a weapon—his red pickup truck was recovered on Sunset Esplanade with a broken window and a flat tire.  KATU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent LendingTree study shows that Oregon residents spend nearly $10,000 on groceries per year—making the state the 8th most expensive in the nation—while the national average is about $8,167 per household. The study uses data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Census Bureau to highlight that grocery costs in Oregon are 21.6% above the national rate.  KOIN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and BOLI Commissioner Christina Stephenson announced a joint effort Monday to help schools protect students from bullying, discrimination, and harassment based on race, national origin, or immigration status. The new Oregon Department of Education guidance aligns with state nondiscrimination laws — including ORS 659.850— and will give schools clear tools to maintain safe learning environments.  KXL
