  • Pacific University dedicated a peace pole at its Hillsboro campus on April 9 to promote peace amid global conflict — the marker funded by local Rotary clubs and the Jubitz Family Foundation displays the phrase May peace prevail on Earth in eight languages.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • The Lyrid meteor shower season is underway, inviting local stargazers to enjoy 5 to 10 meteors per hour if they find a dark spot. Experts recommend watching the display between 1:00 a.m. and dawn.  KXL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tualatin High School senior Jemai Lake abandoned his commitment to Montana to play basketball for Oregon State, joining his brother and following his father’s legacy. The 6A State Player of the Year averaged 21.1 points per game and led his team to a state championship last season.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • Tyler Bellerose, a freshman pitcher for Oregon State baseball, was injured in a serious car crash on Tuesday + the game at Hillsboro Hops Stadium was postponed and will be rescheduled soon.  KATU
  • High school baseball and softball games on Monday highlighted local talent. Forest Grove’s Cole Campbell (3 for 3) with a double and Kevin Carrieri pitched a shutout against Liberty in baseball, while in softball Aloha edged Nelson 19 to 17 with Avery Dimeo hitting two home runs.  Hillsboro News-Times
