  • A Hillsboro man was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a TriMet MAX stop at Hillsboro Transit Center in 2023—according to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.  Hillsboro News-Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Historic farmland in Hillsboro ended over 180 years of agriculture after nearly $166 million was exchanged for land now hosting new industrial projects; builders completed permits in 2024 for several data centers and a 300,000 SF logistics center expected to open soon with limited long-term jobs. The changes on NW Evergreen Road and NW Jackson School Road mark a major transition in our community land use.  Hillsboro Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Oregon House passed a bill banning smartphone use in schools statewide with a few emergency exceptions — the measure now moves to the State Senate as supporters say it will cut distractions while critics worry it could slow emergency alerts.  KATU
  • The Oregon House passed a bill Tuesday that will ban smartphones in classrooms to reduce distractions and improve student health and academic performance. The law lets each school district decide its details—including exemptions for devices needed for learning or medical reasons—and now goes to the Oregon Senate for review.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill Tuesday that bans AI-generated sexual images to stop deepfakes—now the Senate will review the measure.  KOIN
  • Attorney General Dan Rayfield and attorneys general from 20 states filed an amicus brief with a district court to stop what they say are unlawful layoffs and mismanagement at Social Security—actions that risk cutting support for seniors, disabled people and veterans. The brief claims that abrupt staff cuts and office closures led by acting administrator Leland Dudek and the agency DOGE violate federal protections for vulnerable groups.  KATU
