- ➤ The Family Peace Center of Washington County opened its 64,000 (sqft) facility at 1100 N.E. Compton Drive in Hillsboro on Thursday, Apr. 30, to provide immediate help for abuse survivors. It brings together 20 partner agencies (including medical, legal, and housing support) to serve those in need. Hillsboro News-Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fuel prices have surged nearly 65% since February, reaching about $4.50 a gallon today, which raises future cost concerns for aerial firefighting in Oregon and Washington. The Oregon Department of Forestry said current wildfire operations remain unaffected (contract terms may adjust if prices stay high). KATU

- ➤ The Oregon State Fire Marshal launched a Bigfoot-led campaign urging residents to create defensible space by clearing leaves, pine needles, and other debris from around homes (a recommended step to reduce windblown ember risks) before wildfire season begins. KATU
