Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 13th of May.
Good morning, Hillsboro.
On April 26th a railroad worker found the historic bell from David Hill School near a railway in West Hillsboro and Chavez Hilarion called officials who returned it to the school.
School principal Amy Torres and police officer Lisa Erickson said the discovery is a proud moment for local history even as officials look for the missing plaque—this effort shows how our community works together.
On Saturday, May 10, two people and their dog were rescued from a capsized sailboat at Hagg Lake just before 7 p.m. by sheriff’s deputies and Gaston Fire—first responders used ropes and energy to right the boat with minimal damage while the boaters stayed cold but unhurt.
Washington County deputies say that at about 7 p.m. Monday, 26-year-old Trayviana Shoulders kidnapped her two children from their legal guardian at Vista Hills Arms Apartments and drove away in a blue 2016 Mazda CX-5 with an unknown man—authorities say the 3-year-old Zimaya in a yellow shirt and pink shorts and the 2-year-old Michael in a blue shirt and blue shorts are endangered.
Oregon drivers can now report vehicle collisions online from computers or smartphones through the DMV’s 24/7 service—this new system gives a confirmation email and reference number upon submission.
The online option meets the law's requirement to file a report within 72 hours for collisions with injury, death, or damage over $2,500 and helps improve data collection for safety planning.
