  • On May 16, the Hillsboro News-Times website debuted a cleaner design that still offers readers access to the eEdition and digital tools—changes include more frequent sign-in requests and temporary archive unavailability. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hillsboro’s only gay bar, BDSM Brewing — short for Billy’s Damn Straight Mash — will open its 7,000-square-foot space at 516 S. First Ave. on Saturday, May 24 after a year of renovations and red tape. For about a month after opening, patrons will enjoy local beer pours until the bar finalizes its own lineup.  Hillsboro News-Times

  • The 2025 Oregon International Air Show took flight Friday at Hillsboro Airport—organizers said the event showcased numerous aircraft to excite local visitors.  KOIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire restrictions are now in effect on all Bureau of Land Management lands in Oregon and Washington because rising wildfire danger from warm, dry weather calls for new safety measures. The rules, which began May 15, ban fireworks, exploding or metallic targets, tracer and incendiary ammunition, and sky lanterns—violators may face fines up to $100,000, up to a year in prison or be responsible for fire suppression costs.  KXL
