- ➤ Hillsboro’s school board race is almost done as Yessica Hardin-Mercado, Katie Rhyne, Mark Watson and Nancy Thomas won their races on May 21, with final results to be certified by June 16. Hardin-Mercado and Watson said they will work to boost voter participation & keep school programs strong in the district. Hillsboro News-Times
- ➤ Several school superintendents, including from Hillsboro, urged lawmakers on May 16 to oppose a House bill that would let striking public employees get unemployment benefits—saying it could strain school budgets. The bill passed a House committee on Wednesday and would add an extra unpaid week before benefits and require schools to deduct future wages if enacted. KOIN
