Good morning, Hillsboro.

On Friday, fire officials told U.S. Sen. Merkley that enough firefighters are ready for wildfires but federal cuts have reduced support staff and teams—tools needed to manage major fires—and warned that hotter, drier weather will challenge Oregon’s response.

They said wildfires could grow large in September and October as the season progresses.

Hillsboro mourned 27-year-old Hayden Graser, who died by suicide on April 4 after a long fight with depression — his mother established a scholarship fund with the Hillsboro Schools Foundation to support mental health and suicide prevention research.

At Hayward Field on May 30-31, Jesuit’s Grant Valley ran record 100 and 200 meters to help his team win the boys state title and Hillsboro’s Ryan LeClair won the 200 and 400 at the 5A meet.

Many athletes set personal bests (including local competitors) as state championships were decided.
