GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Tina Kotek signed a law that lets striking workers get unemployment benefits after two weeks (capped at 10 weeks), making Oregon the first state to pay public workers on strike. The law passed after debates in the Senate and House and requires school districts to subtract the benefits from future wages (to cover costs). KXL
- ➤ The Oregon Senate voted 15 to 14 against a bill that would force tech companies to pay local news outlets for using their content and end its progress this year — the bill’s author said she will reintroduce the proposal next session. Hillsboro News-Times
