Robert Elmer Atrops was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the 1988 murder of his estranged wife Deborah Lee Atrops after DNA evidence linked mud from her car trunk to his home—he now faces possible parole in 25 years.

North Plains has been selected for a $1 million EPA grant to clean contaminated topsoil from a 5-acre site that is planned to host the city’s only grocery store—City Manager Bill Reid said the grant will remove up to 12 inches of soil while further demolition work is expected if funding is confirmed.
