ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver died early Thursday morning after leaving the roadway and hitting a tree along Southwest Farmington Road—between Tile Flat and Clark Hill roads south of Hillsboro—as deputies closed the road between Jacktown and Clark Hill for an investigation.  KATU

CRIME NEWS

  • Washington County District Attorney's Office reopened the 1994 cold case homicide of 85-year-old Veta Hardebeck from her Gaston farm using a new $14,000 grant—investigators submitted new evidence for advanced DNA testing.  Hillsboro News-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington County commissioners discussed a new resolution on July 8 that will keep the county's equality goals while removing DEI language to follow a federal mandate. They will meet on July 22 to review the plan as county staff warn that non-compliance could risk $135 million in federal funds.  Hillsboro News-Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting in 2027, Oregon Health Plan members between 19 and 64 must show proof of work to keep their Medicaid coverage—up to 200,000 people may lose health insurance and federal funding could drop by as much as $1.4 billion each year. The law will also lower the provider tax and cut Medicaid funds for Planned Parenthood clinics, risking hospital revenue and access to care.  Hillsboro News-Times
