Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of July.
Good morning, Hillsboro.
Search and rescue teams resumed efforts Monday at 6 a.m. to locate Ralph Sawyer, a mountain biker reported missing late Friday in Mount Hood National Forest—about 70 volunteers and support units, including the 304th Rescue Squadron, have covered over 250 miles of rough terrain.
Two bicyclists were hospitalized Sunday, July 13 in Washington County after separate crashes—one adult woman was struck by a vehicle and left in a ditch for hours while a 55-year-old man was critically injured in another crash where the driver remained on scene and authorities are now searching for the hit-and-run driver.
Intel announced it will cut 2,392 jobs across its four Washington County campuses in a revised notice from July 11 — the new plan replaces an earlier estimate of 529 layoffs, and first separations begin today affecting positions at Ronler Acres, Jones Farm, Aloha and Hawthorn Farm. The cuts are part of a broader cost-cutting campaign that marks one of the largest job reductions in Oregon's semiconductor industry.
Multnomah County said it will not open new cooling shelters for the coming heat wave and will keep watching the weather while public spots (libraries, pools, and community centers) serve as cooling centers.
Residents in Washington and Clackamas counties are advised to take care when working or playing outside in the heat.
The federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed July 4 will cut Medicaid spending by about $1 trillion over the next decade—Washington County service providers are not set to close as 338 rural hospitals face financial challenges that may force them to reduce services and lay off workers.
