Pacific and Willamette universities signed an agreement to form Oregon’s largest private university.
The institutions signed in July and plan to start the legal transition early next year, combining academic strengths while each campus in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Salem, and Portland keeps its identity (provisionally named University of the Northwest).

The National Weather Service in Portland now uses the Hot-Dry-Windy Index (HDWI) to help alert firefighters during wildfire season, which has aided crews managing risks at fires like East Evans Creek.
Firefighters rely on forecasts of wind and low humidity to plan safer operations for communities.

Portland Cascade softball has returned to Hillsboro after a two-week road trip, winning games against the Carolina Blaze and Chicago Bandits.
The team will begin its final four regular season games today at the old Hops Ballpark, drawing strong local support.
Yang Hansen, 21, a basketball player for the Trail Blazers, showed promise in two Summer League games in Las Vegas on Tuesday, July 14 by averaging 15 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
