- ➤ Starting next year, Oregon schools will ban cell phones during class due to Governor Tina Kotek's executive order 25-09 and districts must fund pouches to lock up students' phones by January 1, 2026. Some schools, including those in Hillsboro School District and Portland Public Schools, have asked for tax-deductible donations to help cover the roughly $35 cost per pouch — a move aimed at boosting classroom learning and protecting student mental health.
