- ➤ Union Gospel Mission will open a new home for women and children later in August as more than 100 volunteers work to finish the 53,000 square foot LifeChange Center on August 16 at 9 a.m. at Sonrise Church of Hillsboro—this facility features 52 rooms and spaces for education, counseling and other support services to help those recovering from addiction and abuse. - ➤ The Oregon Food Bank said that federal cuts and new SNAP rules have forced some food warehouses to close as 1,200 partners saw a 31% increase in food assistance visits last year. Local advocates met with two Congress members to discuss options to help up to 100,000 people who might lose benefits—concerns grow over rising food costs. KXL
