- ➤ Oregon Heritage Farms permanently closed its apple orchard after nearly 30 years of fall tradition—its 2024 season was its last—and will host a farewell barn sale Friday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to mark its final days. Hillsboro News-Times
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bag&Baggage Productions will open its 2025-26 season with a revival of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie at the Vault Theater on Main Street next month; the production runs every Thursday through Sunday from Sept. 5 until Sept. 21 and marks the company’s first staging of the play in 15 years (it includes a 15-minute intermission and some pay-what-you-can shows). - ➤ Arietta Ward, known as the Rip City Soul Funk Diva, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at Hillsboro’s Walters Cultural Arts Center—tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 on show day with discounts for eligible visitors. Hillsboro News-Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Federal officials are withholding $52 million in funds for education programs that help migrant families earn diplomas and degrees—leaving about 45 incoming CAMP students and others at risk as colleges prepare alternate support if the funding is not released soon. This decision, made before today, puts key services like academic advising and tutoring in jeopardy. Hillsboro News-Times

- ➤ Washington County Commissioners received an update Tuesday on affordable housing and homelessness from housing director Molly Rogers, who said almost 5,000 households received help and 833 formerly homeless households were housed—exceeding county goals. For the next fiscal year, the county will support 5,200 households with rental assistance and plan to fund a dozen projects with about $118 million bond money. KXL
