- ➤ Sherwood’s Noelle Gush, 12, was crowned National American Miss Oregon Preteen on June 28 at the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program pageant in Seaside—she will travel to Florida in November for the National American Miss competition—and she volunteers with Paws in Action to help homeless cats while she plans her future as a zoological veterinarian. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A study showed that Oregon schools lost $275 million in property tax revenue in 2024 as tax abatements for new data centers and large companies doubled losses from 2019. Hillsboro School District lost over $143 million from a program that lasts 30 years—raising concerns about local school funding. Hillsboro News-Times
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Hillsboro approved a proposal to build an affordable housing project on TriMet property north of Willow Creek Park & Ride—led by Mercy Housing Northwest and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization, the plan will include 117 apartments, supportive housing units and an early learning center. City officials noted that $15.5 million in bond funds and a discounted property price will be used, with construction beginning late 2026 pending final approvals. Hillsboro News-Times
