- ➤ On Tuesday, Aug. 12, five veterans at The Springs at Sherwood and The Springs at Tanasbourne received free biplane rides provided by Dream Flights in a Boeing-Stearman biplane—once used to train military pilots. The nonprofit restored the World War II-era plane to honor their service and bring joy to local seniors. Hillsboro News-Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oregon National Guard leaders and elected officials broke ground on a new $30 million readiness center at 3600 N.E. Veterans Drive in Hillsboro on Thursday, Aug-21, replacing the 1954 armory and expanding the military’s local presence. The 45,000-square-foot facility will include a drill floor, offices, training areas and a 20,000-square-foot storage area for howitzers, though officials have not said when it will open. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tualatin High School football team is starting a new season with many changes after losing key players such as quarterback Nolan Keeney and receiver Zhaiel Smith, and three new quarterbacks are competing for the starter role. Coach Dom Ferraro said the team will work hard and focus on teamwork as it prepares for tough Three Rivers League games and aims to make the playoffs later in November—every spot must be earned.
