  • A new analysis shows that quality of life in Oregon cities is improving—Hillsboro moved to 55th from 93rd in 2024, with Bend, Beaverton, and Portland also showing stronger ranks. The study compared 500 U.S. cities based on factors like economic stability, healthcare, education, and safety.  KOIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-winning soprano Karen Slack—winner of the 2025 Grammy for best classical solo vocal album—will perform with Portland Opera at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton on September 13 and 14; she previewed upcoming details on AM Extra. This performance marks a new season launch for the opera.  KOIN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, two earthquakes struck in the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast; the 5.8 magnitude quake hit at 9:08 p.m. and a 4.4 magnitude quake followed at 9:15 p.m., both more than 100 miles offshore on the Blanco Fracture Zone. No tsunami or damage is expected from the shallow quakes (six to eight miles deep).  KATU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Tina Kotek and the Oregon Health Authority are studying rules to let pharmacies give the COVID vaccine like Washington did. Federal guidelines may not come until mid-September—tighter rules have already made getting shots confusing.  Hillsboro News-Times
