COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Union Gospel Mission, a Portland-based nonprofit, will open Angela’s House on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 18555 N.W. Rock Creek Blvd to provide recovery for women and children escaping homelessness, addiction and abuse. The new 53,000 square foot facility will offer 52 resident rooms and host education, counseling and work therapy programs as part of its LifeChange initiative — aiming to help over 2,000 residents in the next 10 years.  Hillsboro News-Times

  • The New York Times named two Oregon restaurants—Yardy Rum Bar in Eugene and The Paper Bridge in Portland—among America’s best in its Restaurant List 2025 after tasting over 200 meals in 33 states. Yardy's Caribbean flavors and The Paper Bridge’s North Vietnamese dishes with homemade rice noodles were highlighted as standout qualities.  KOIN
  • Tuff Shed finished four months of renovations and will host a three-day grand reopening celebration at its Hillsboro Sales and Design Center at 2950 S.E. 73rd Ave—near Tualatin Valley Highway starting Friday. Visitors can enjoy a noon ribbon-cutting with free hot dogs, refreshments, live violin music, and event-only deals including free paint and special financing.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • A federal jury ordered Topgolf to pay over $15 million after a 9-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a golf club at the Hillsboro venue during a 2021 birthday party. Jurors found Topgolf 97% at fault—assigning 3% to a parent—after a two-week trial and careful deliberations.  Hillsboro News-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tina Kotek ordered state buildings to be quakeproof so they can serve as safe hubs during a future Cascadia quake; all new state buildings over 10,000 square feet must be upgraded immediately and older structures used by essential agencies retrofitted or replaced by 2060 — a move that awaits funding approval from the legislature.  Hillsboro News-Times

  • Statewide high school football coaches polls released on Tuesday showed Sherwood climbing in 6A with a 1-0 record — Hillsboro also received votes in the 5A poll with a 1-0 record as Lake Oswego and Wilsonville led their divisions.
