BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flexential, one of Hillsboro’s largest data center operators, announced in early September that it acquired land to build its sixth facility—a two-story, 350,000-square-foot center that will support 27 megawatts of capacity—across from its Hillsboro 1 site at 3935 N.E. Aloclek Place. The new center will provide cloud, interconnection, and data protection services in response to growing digital demands.  Hillsboro News-Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Administrative Services announced on Tuesday that landlords under the state’s rent stabilization law will face a 9.5% cap for 2026—while mobile home facilities with over 30 spaces will have a 6% limit. The new cap, the second lowest since rent regulation began, would add about $180 to the current average monthly rent of $1,895.  Hillsboro News-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state is running a two-week Get There Challenge this October to urge residents to use public transit, walk, bike, carpool, or work remotely instead of driving — the program aims to make commuting greener and healthier. It will continue until mid-October.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Metro Auditor Brian Evans reported that a Metro employee at the Central Transfer Station violated reuse guidelines by keeping electronics meant for recycling — including a stolen laptop recovered from the worker's home — while several management layers failed to act on ethical concerns before the audit began. Agency leaders agreed to strengthen oversight and implement annual ethics training along with revised reuse procedures.  KOIN
  • Washington County deputies began using a new AI tool for writing reports yesterday as part of a 60-day pilot program—deputies can use it for calls like mental health and crashes but not for felony cases. The sheriff and district attorney will review the program after the pilot to decide if it will continue.  KATU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at the University of Washington found that wildfire smoke lowered sperm count and quality in 84 men who gave samples for infertility treatment. The study adds to earlier research on wildfire smoke and health risks—information that may guide future advice.  KOIN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Washington County baseball coach Joe Baumgartner, who led teams at Banks and Forest Grove, will be inducted into the OHSBCA Hall of Fame on Nov. 1; he retired last season after a 30-year career and credited teamwork with his assistants for his success — joining his family's baseball legacy.  Hillsboro News-Times
