CULTURE NEWS

  • Brazilian singer-songwriter Caro Pierotto will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at the Walters Cultural Arts Center—she will sing originals and covers in three languages to share messages of love, hope and healing. Tickets cost $27 in advance or $32 at the door.  Hillsboro News-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Wyden introduced a bill Friday to help federal workers deal with money troubles during the government shutdown—he said the plan would let workers take funds from their TSP without a penalty if the shutdown continues. The measure would also stop loan payments during shutdowns and has cosponsors including Sen. Tim Kaine, Richard Blumenthal, Chris Coons, Amy Klobuchar, and Brian Schatz—efforts aimed at easing essentials like rent and groceries.  KOIN

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 2, the Mountainside and Westview girls soccer teams played a Metro League opener at Mountainside High that ended in a 0-0 tie with a near-clear goal in the final seconds—both teams worked hard and gained valuable experience. Mountainside stands at 4-4-1 while Westview remains unbeaten at 8-0-1 and will next play on Monday when Westview hosts Aloha and Mountainside travels to Jesuit.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • Senior running back Daniel Heninger has rushed for over 1,000 yards in the team’s first four games and led Glencoe to an undefeated start—he said his focus remains on playing hard even as the team adjusts to a move back to 6A classification.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • On Friday night, the Westside High School Football Committee released its predictions for local games — including Hillsboro’s favored win over McNary — and improved its record to 37–11 over three weeks. The committee expected close contests and noted that teams like Jesuit and Southridge were adapting after early season wins and losses.  Hillsboro News-Times
