- ➤ Nellie McAdams from the Oregon Agricultural Trust and Rob Petros from John's Marketplace explained on AM Extra that the fourth annual Cheers to the Land collaboration will protect farmland by linking beer sales with conservation efforts—helping keep key crops safe for local brews. KOIN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local governments have until Nov. 17 to apply for grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to support park and recreation projects — the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department runs the program with funds from the National Park Service. The program has awarded up to $1.6 million in past projects and has invested over $80 million since 1964 to improve public spaces across the state. Hillsboro News-Times
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, Kaiser Permanente nurses and healthcare workers began a five-day strike, and hospitals including Kaiser Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro will stay open through Sunday Oct 19 with some lab tests and appointments possibly delayed. Kaiser has reassigned extra staff from other sites and will offer virtual care—ensuring that patients receive needed services during the strike. KOIN
