ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday at about 10:15 a.m. at Aloha High School, a gas leak led deputies, firefighters + NW Natural Gas and the Washington County Sheriff's Office to evacuate students and staff as area residents were asked to avoid the scene. KATU
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ After a neglect case in June led Washington County Animal Services to rescue 30 mostly Maine Coon cats and two birds, the animals—who received extensive medical and behavioral care—are now available for adoption at Oregon Humane Society’s Portland campus following a guilty plea to first-degree and second-degree neglect. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SMART Reading has launched its 34th volunteer drive to help schools in Washington County and three other northwest counties build lifelong reading skills. Volunteers will tutor nearly 3,000 students and deliver almost 39,000 books to schools in Cornelius, Forest Grove and Beaverton—addressing Oregon's literacy crisis. Hillsboro News-Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, heavy rain and strong winds from an atmospheric river began soaking the region+ gusts reached 58 mph and rain was expected to total 1 to 2 inches in the Willamette Valley and 2 to 4 inches along the coast by Saturday night. A second storm will hit today with stronger winds while officials urge residents to clear storm drains to reduce urban flooding risks. KATU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hillsboro Fire & Rescue announced it will launch Rescue 6—a new medical rescue unit—at Cherry Lane Station 6 on Nov. 6. Fire officials said the unit will let firefighter-paramedics reach emergencies faster and keep fire engines ready for blazes as the area grows. Hillsboro News-Times
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Washington County officials and partners held a ribbon-cutting for the new Beaverton Recovery Center on Oct 24—adding much-needed capacity with 86 treatment beds, including 48 for residential care and 16 for withdrawal management. The center will begin accepting clients Nov 17 and will join the Hillsboro Recovery Center to create a connected system for addiction support. Hillsboro News-Times
- ➤ Three people—one from Oregon and two from Washington—tested positive for E. coli after eating unpasteurized-aged cheese made by Twin Sisters Creamery Farmhouse; Washington health officials recalled certain products made on or after May 27 after lab tests confirmed matching bacterial strains.
