BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon filed a complaint on Thursday with the Oregon Public Utility Commission against PacifiCorp for not supplying enough power to four new data centers that were developed to support cloud computing and other digital services in eastern Oregon—Amazon also claims the utility demanded extra payments beyond the agreed contract terms, which forced the centers to limit their operations.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hillsboro, preparing for its 150th anniversary, is asking residents to vote on its first community flag by reviewing three finalist designs on the Engage Hillsboro website until Dec. 10 — the entries reflect key themes of community, nature, history and technology.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation warned that during the government shutdown the National Flood Insurance Program has been paused so that no new or renewed flood insurance policies can be issued until Congress reauthorizes it, while current policies remain effective until their expiration. Home sales in high flood risk areas might be delayed + consumers may consider private flood insurance as an option.  KATU
  • The Metro Council voted unanimously Tuesday to allocate $500,000 from its contingency fund to help residents affected by the government shutdown, which halted SNAP benefits.
