  • YMA camps celebrated 60 years on May 23rd with a party that had a live in-studio show + previews of new summer sessions. The arts camp said it will offer fun events for campers this summer.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hillsboro’s school board race is almost done as Yessica Hardin-Mercado, Katie Rhyne, Mark Watson and Nancy Thomas won their races on May 21, with final results to be certified by June 16. Hardin-Mercado and Watson said they will work to boost voter participation & keep school programs strong in the district.  Hillsboro News-Times
  • Several school superintendents, including from Hillsboro, urged lawmakers on May 16 to oppose a House bill that would let striking public employees get unemployment benefits—saying it could strain school budgets. The bill passed a House committee on Wednesday and would add an extra unpaid week before benefits and require schools to deduct future wages if enacted.  KOIN

  • The Jesuit girls lacrosse team won 13-8 over Grant on May 22—clinching their fourth straight state title after their only season loss. The team showed strong chemistry and determination through solid scoring and defense.  Hillsboro News-Times
