Several school superintendents, including from Hillsboro, urged lawmakers on May 16 to oppose a House bill that would let striking public employees get unemployment benefits—saying it could strain school budgets.

The bill passed a House committee on Wednesday and would add an extra unpaid week before benefits and require schools to deduct future wages if enacted.

The Jesuit girls lacrosse team won 13-8 over Grant on May 22—clinching their fourth straight state title after their only season loss.
