If you haven't voted yet, you have plenty of company. KOIN reported that a little more than 40 percent of Oregon voters had returned their ballots as of Monday morning, according to the secretary of state's office, and even fewer in Washington.

Elections officials want people to drop ballots in a drop box as soon as possible. Some voters KATU spoke with chose a drop box to avoid possible mail delays. We suggest skipping the mail and going early.

Portland Public Schools asks the state to help ease a $65 million deficit

Portland Public Schools, Oregon's largest district, faces a $65 million deficit next school year. Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong announced Monday that up to 450 full-time-equivalent positions could be eliminated. The district breaks that down as 223 at schools, 60 in support roles and 167 in the central office and administration.
